About the company

Retency is a French technology company that develops “privacy by design” data processing algorithms. The guarantees provided by Retency technologies offer an unrivalled level of protection, enabling the anonymization and processing of massive databases collected without prior consent. Retency algorithms are officially recognized by the regulator as valid throughout Europe.

Challenges

Retency faced a significant challenge in ensuring the secure and compliant management of personal data while leveraging cloud infrastructure for its Retency Privacy Engine. This software, validated by the CNIL (the French data protection authority), needed to implement Retency Privacy Engine in the cloud, where it needs a reliable, highly secure server infrastructure. This infrastructure must comply with EU regulations, ensuring that data processing remains within the European Union and is never exposed to U.S. jurisdiction, such as the Cloud Act. Retency's dedication to data security demands the highest standards, particularly as it deals with sensitive personal information. To address this, Retency chose Scaleway's security tools for their Compute instances, including features like Security Groups and Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). These tools provide the necessary foundation to build a robust and secure infrastructure, ensuring that data remains protected.

This has allowed Retency to accelerate its operations and focus more on its core business, rather than spending time on complex infrastructure management.

Future Plans

Retency now processes around 25 billion individual geolocation points per month. In the future, Retency would like to increase the automation linked to the provision of Scaleway infrastructure (use of APIs and DNS functionalities in particular).
