Scaleway enabled us to deploy a high-performance Kubernetes cluster with minimal overhead and maintenance, significantly enhancing our operational efficiency. Today, and thanks to the newly deployed infrastructure, we are able to absorb subscription peaks that are 5 times higher than what we could handle in the past.

About the company

Spliiit is a French startup that allows users to share the cost of over 260 digital services, including VPNs, streaming (audio and video), and media subscriptions (magazines, newspapers). Through its platform, users can connect with others to split subscription fees, making it more affordable to access these services. The platform covers a wide range of digital offerings and aims to help users reduce their overall subscription costs.

Challenges

Their company initially operated with traditional on-instance deployments without any containerization, which led to significant operational hurdles. They lacked resilience and had no auto scaling capabilities, resulting in frequent manual interventions to maintain system stability. They were in search of a French cloud provider that could offer a managed Kubernetes control plane, while supporting Terraform resources, in order for us to automate their deployments comprehensively.

Results

By transitioning their new architecture at Scaleway, the company achieved significant improvements across several key areas. First, they greatly reinforced the resiliency of their system, reducing downtime from 6–8 incidents per year to virtually zero. Additionally, they improved speed and agility, nearly doubling the number of production deployments without any rollbacks, allowing the delivery of updates and new features more rapidly. Finally, they optimized costs through autoscaling. This has led to a substantial reduction in technology expenses, particularly during low-usage periods, such as at night. Today, Spliiit can handle five times more subscriptions simultaneously than before and its Kubernetes (K8s) infrastructure is now easily manageable thanks to Terraform.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, Spliiit plans to deploy their infrastructure in other regions like the Americas, aiming to extend their global reach while preserving the simplicity and efficiency of Scaleway. This expansion will help them serve a broader customer base with improved latency and reliability. They are excited to continue leveraging Scaleway's services to support their growth and explore new markets without compromising on ease of use or performance.
