Scaleway introduces Apple silicon M1 as-a-Service, first of its kind in Europe
Paris, France – February 2, 2021 – Scaleway, pioneer in ARM Bare Metal as-a-Service (BMaaS) and alternative cloud provider featuring a comprehensive public cloud ecosystem, goes back to its roots by introducing Apple silicon M1 as-a-Service. This new launch provides customers with the latest fully native Apple experience based on macOS Big Sur running on the lightning fast Mac mini M1 at €0.10 per hour. All systems come pre-installed with the latest version of macOS Big Sur 11.2 and Xcode 12.4
Scaleway continues building on its strategy to provide customers with high-end cloud computing services by adding to its wide range of dedicated servers and true alternative public cloud offering. Scaleway is the only triple play cloud provider to offer premium datacenter colocation, a public cloud and a range of bare metal products, as well as high-end dedicated servers, all with an innovative and holistic approach toward sustainable energy consumption.
With the introduction of its Mac mini running on Apple silicon on November 10, 2020, Apple stunned the world by delivering massive computing power while consuming 55% less energy than previous generations, and claimed the title of the “world’s best CPU performance per watt”.
Arnaud de Bermingham, Founder and President of Scaleway said, “Scaleway is known as a pioneer for bare metal cloud computing but less so for its innovation around energy efficient computing. In fact, we were already leading the way in 2014 with our sub-5W ARMv9 C1 server architecture as well as our efficient data centers. We use a one-of-a-kind industrial-scale adiabatic cooling to reach an effective PUE of 1.15. The Apple silicon M1 is exactly the sort of innovation that we look for to deliver better computing performance to our clients while consuming less energy, in line with our DNA and environmental values.”
Yann Lechelle, CEO of Scaleway continued, “By introducing Apple silicon M1 as-a-Service running on the latest Mac mini M1, we at Scaleway are thrilled to offer a fully native Apple Big Sur experience running remotely, at a low cost of €0.10 per hour with a minimum commitment of 24 hours. This is the perfect setup to tackle increasingly complex macOS or iOS continuous integration and delivery for distributed development teams.” Indeed, creating a Scaleway account to take remote control of a newly installed Mac mini M1 takes less than 5 minutes.
Scaleway is deploying its Mac mini M1 farm in its state-of-the-art DC4 data center located in a former nuclear fallout shelter 25 meters underground in Paris, France. As of today, Scaleway’s customers can benefit from the Mac mini M1 from anywhere in the world, and compute more while burning less.
